I started working with Richard in October 2020 in preparation for my upcoming wedding. Although the pandemic put a wrench in a lot of people's fitness and gym habits, thanks to Richard I was able to stay on track and get in the best shape I have ever been in. I have done crossfit, Barry's, and Orange Theory but have never had this level of expertise with a coach or personal trainer. He keeps the workouts tailored to your needs/experience level and it is always varied. He has also helped hold me accountable for my diet/nutrition plan and it is all definitely paying off. There was no better feeling than hearing my wedding dress needed to be taken in (a lot) at my first fitting. Very thankful to have found Richard!

I have been pretty slim my entire life and I have always felt a little embarrassed because of my slim physique and weak strength. When I first started working with Richard, I could barely finish a proper push-up. I meet with Richard 2-3 sessions/week, and not only did he customize a workout based on what I wanted to focus, but he also provided me with nutritional guidance and helped me tracking my progress. It’s only been 3 months, I gained about 15 lbs which is the most I have ever gained in my life in such short period of time. ALL of my friends, including my own family already noticed and complimented on my physique without me saying anything. I am not at my goal yet, but I already feel stronger and feel more confident. I am certain that Richard will help me get to my goal weight, I have no doubt. He is incredibly knowledgeable (not just about personal training!), highly competent and very accommodating to his clients. I bought the first package of 20 sessions after our first meeting. And I already bought the second package of 20 sessions even before the first package was up because I knew he is the trainer I want to work with in the long-run. Highly highly highly recommended!

In addition to all the glowing reviews that Richard has received as a personal trainer, I believe that Richard takes pride in thinking "outside the box" and looks to fix and address any sort of underlying issues that might be attributing to poor posture and exercise technique. 

Rich has taught me about the monumental importance of core strengthening to include my lumbar paraspinal and multifidi muscles, not just my abdominals, in order to safely and correctly perform all of my common workout routines (squats, deadlifts, chest and shoulder presses). He is very keen on prescribing workout plans that are challenging, yet realistic for me. 

Lastly, Rich is very up-to-date with his knowledge on current workout programs and can provide insight to my questions regarding any exercise. I like to utilize my workout time efficiently, and Rich shares with me his knowledge of exercises that target functional, compound movements to integrate my body as much as possible. His continuous learning about exercises derived from evidence-based research separates him from a LOT of other personal trainers. 

For anyone looking to take their fitness, health, and wellness to the next level, Richard is definitely someone you should be consulting with.

I have been through some gyms, personal trainers, different diets in the past 6 years, and still successfully kept gaining weight. From a size 6 to 12. Until I met Richard Hsu. I have been with Richard for one month, training 3 times a week, and I already fit in most of my size 8 pants. Especially fit in my waist. I was in disbelief when I found out I can wear my old favorite clothes again! I literally tried everything from my closet and 80% of them fit again. 

And what's better is, Richard didn't have to kill me in my sessions like other trainers, I was working and playing just like normal and even with some energy. Richard really knows how to work out different groups of muscles for the best results. By the way, I sprained my ankle badly on the second week of starting training with Richard and he customized my plan and I didn't have to miss any sessions.

Richard told me he was skinny before and was able to bulk up, impressively, he has great body shape now, I really believe he can help people with different needs! 

Also, he is this really mellow dude really no stress going to his gym! Last thing, his gym is very clean and quiet, only a few people at the most I really enjoy the privacy!

Prior to training with Richard, my only form of fitness was running on the treadmill. After working with Richard he helped me reach some of my fitness goals with weight training including building upper body strength, developing proper form when lifting, and overall weight loss. Richard is very focused in helping meet his clients goals even beyond fitness. He had great tips on nutrition and diet plans. I personally loved that the gym was just a personal training studio. After working with him, I am finally confident to weight train on my own--thank you, Richard.

I frequently travel for business and had, in the past, relied on late night runs at hotel gyms and group kickboxing classes for workouts.  For a long time, I felt stuck and not where I wanted to be in terms of physical fitness. Nothing made much of a difference until I met and started training with Richard. Working with Richard is probably one of the best decisions I've made for myself.

Training with Richard has been both a pleasure and extremely motivating! Each session is thoughtfully customized to my fitness goals and progress, and often switched up to keep exercises interesting and effective. As others have noted, his focus on form, and mindfulness of limits versus when to provide encouragement gives comfort that clients can perform the exercises under his coaching without getting injured. He is clearly knowledgeable regarding different techniques and their benefits, as well as overall health and fitness and topical issues, and always passionate in discussing and sharing his knowledge of these topics.  Equally important, he developed a detailed nutritional plan, and works with me to track my diet/macros, calorie intake, and weight, while providing ongoing adjustments and feedback. Throughout all of this, Richard challenges and supports me as a friend, with the right balance of coaching and motivation to hold me accountable.

I have been training with Richard for the last four months, 1-2 times a week. There has been a clear difference in my core strength and arms. My posture has improved (no more back pain from work), and I've found myself mentally more positive, disciplined, and willing to challenge myself to new levels and activities.  

Overall, I would highly recommend Richard to anyone new to or familiar with personal training, looking for quality training/healthy, sustainable results coupled with reasonably priced packages, or for a less commercialized and more substantive experience.

Great trainer and loads of fun! I've been working with Richard for about two months and already met my goals! Going to definitely sign up for more and see how far I can take all these positive changes to my body.
For reference: I'm 5'4" 29 yo female, started at 144 lbs and currently down to 134 lbs. Had like no muscles when I began and now I feel so strong. I've also had issues with vertigo and Richard has been great about keeping that in mind and choosing appropriate exercises. Last but not least he keeps me safe!!! As an RN my body is everything and I cannot afford to get hurt and I'm very thankful I work with someone who values form and safety as much as he does. It's exciting to see your body change, thanks Rich!!

Very knowledgeable, respectful and encouraging trainer. I've learned so much on how to achieve my fitness goals, learned so much in nutrition, proper form, technique, poster and all the 9 yards. On top of that, Richard comes as a friend first and foremost, meaning he'll like to have you feel warm welcome to workout. Trainer 2nd to make sure you lift properly and safe to achieve what you seek in terms of fitness goes. His business speaks for itself, with noticeable results.

Working with Richard has been an incredible experience. His level of knowledge and attentiveness really made me feel like I'm getting the most I can from each session. He's helped correct my form, worked with me through my injuries, and challenged me during times when I just didn't feel like working out. I highly recommend if you are looking for a trainer who is supportive and knowledgeable, but will also train you through the challenges

Finding the right personal trainer that was the perfect fit for me was not an easy task. After finding Richard on yelp and training a few sessions with him, I knew he was the best trainer I've ever worked with. It has been 3 months, I've already met my weight goal and body fat % loss target.

One of my biggest worries committing to fitness was the commitment, but Richard made it easy to stay consistent and to see changes. He really helped me plan toward my goals, not only in the workout arena but also with nutrition, which I thought was incredibly helpful. He worked with me on my ideal vision of myself and tailored workouts to get me to where i wanted and I have definitely seen a difference and I feel one too. I would recommend him as a personal trainer - it's been awesome working with him and I look forward to every session.

Richard probably is the best personal trainer in the Bay area. He is extremely knowledgeable and gifted trainer. Once you start with Richard, he will build you up slowly to your desired goal. Richard will take time to listen to you and your body. He has great set of skill to be able to evaluate and design a specific fitness program to meet each individual's unique body type and strength. He is always positive and encouraging and that helps as he is making you feel the burn with each exercise. If you're looking to make a positive change both physically and mentally, make the call now.  He will challenge you, but trust him and his process, and he will get you to your goals and do things you never thought you were capable of! I highly recommend Richard if you are looking for a personal trainer to help with whatever your needs might be.

My go to trainer, Richard Hsu! He is an absolute amazing trainer who knows how to motivate and encourage towards your goals! He has taught me a lot about macros and eating smart with portion control without sacrificing the "finer foods in life" I tend to enjoy. His sessions are super efficient and enjoyable! You definitely feel accomplished after each session. 

In my current progress, I have successfully lost 15lb of fat with him for the last 2 months!! Now we are currently working on putting on a little more weight and muscle to achieve my optimal physique for the summer! 

Overall, I would highly recommend Richard. He is a really friendly, knowledgeable, and a patient trainer. I admire his work ethic as he is  always able to give the best workout for me, always there to answer my questions, and also that he truly cares about his clients. He has all the good qualities that I look for in a trainer. Thanks Richard :)

I have worked with a few trainers in the past at a variety of commercial gyms. Richard is definitely the best trainer I've ever experienced working with! He has helped me with my weight loss and muscle building goals. I'm currently in my best state of shape that I have ever been. He has been nothing short of being extremely supportive and encouraging as he genuinely cares about your health goals. There were also weekly checkups with my diet and progress. I would recommend Richard to anyone looking for a excellent trainer that gets you RESULTS!

Richard is an excellent personal trainer! I wanted to focus on toning my stomach and lower body, and I was also hoping he could help with my neck/upper back pain (I'm a dentist).

Before the first session he asked me about my goals. When we started, he was friendly, easy to get along with, and had already customized my session for my needs! He addresses my target areas with a variety of exercises, changing it up every session. For my back pain he helped with stretches and some massage techniques, which I've found very helpful. In addition he does diet counseling, which has definitely helped me progress as well. He makes me track my calories and suggests foods to eat. In between sessions he checks in with me with regards to diet/calorie tracking and exercising on my own. I always feel free to ask him questions via text and he responds quickly. Definitely top notch service!

So far I've been training with him for a couple of weeks. Already I've seen progress with my form and strength. He knows how to motivate and encourage but he's not intimidating or too pushy. I really appreciate that he doesn't push me to do more or work harder until I get my form perfect. I purchased a very reasonably priced 10 session package, and I'm looking forward to see the progress we'll make! Overall definitely highly recommended--plus he's a super cool guy who's really into all sorts of music!

Before I trained with Richard, I trained by myself for 2-3x a week for years and I noticed not much of a progression since my college years. As a business professional now,  I sat long hours at work which resulted in a bit of a weight gain and minor back pain. I wanted to get back into better shape, strengthen my core/lower back, and improve my posture.

Richard has exceeded my expectations as a personal trainer. Not only is he knowledgeable w ith his expertise in fitness and nutrition, all his sessions are very progressive and serve a specific purpose to accomplish my fitness goals. He pushes and motivates me throughout all my workouts as well as to always check to see my form and how I'm feeling for each progression. Also, he was very patient teaching me about habits and macros. After training with Richard, I was able to accomplish all my fitness goals! Richard is an excellent trainer/coach/friend. 5 stars all around!
